History: A Look Into Tohma's Mind...
For many people who have read the mangas and/or watched the Gravitation anime, they have come out hating Tohma. Let's take a look at his actions though. To begin with, Tohma has verbally stated that Eiri is the person he loves most. This seems very true. He hates with a passion anyone who hurts Eiri. It also seems that everything he does (to an extent) revolves around Eiri. He even goes as far as asking Eiri if it would be alright if he took Shuichi out of the equation, to which Eiri agrees.
Tohma seems to be a perfectionist, and very manipulative. In other words, used to getting his way and very good at doing that himself. Perhaps his childhood was not a very pleasant one. Near the middle of the series, Tohma turn on Aiazawa of ASK. Aizawa has hurt Shuichi, which in turn mentally and physically effected Eiri. So of course, Tohma is out for revenge. He even goes as far as pushing Aiazawa in front of a moving car. But Aizawa isn't hit, so no harm done. He only seems a bit...insane afterwords.
Tohma is married to Mika Uesugi, now known as Mika Seguchi. (Well I did just say Mika was married to Tohma, so that is kind of obvious. Continuing...) But the question is, why did Tohma marry Mika? They do seem to be happily married, and they do seem to care deeply for each other, but it just seems that Tohma cares about Eiri more than her. But Mika and Tohma are very much alike. They both are possessive of Eiri and would both do anything for the benefit of him. Here are some examples of their closeness and Eiri and how they would do anything for him.
Example 1: Mika closes up a bar early and attempts to bribe Shuichi (using her husband as bait pretty much) into coaxing Eiri to go home to visit his father.
Example 2: In episode 08, Eiri reveals to Tohma that he has told Shuichi of his past. Tohma takes Eiri in his arms, and amazingly, Eiri doesn't struggle against it. Tohma states that "I will see that Aizawa-san also takes responsibility..."
Example 3: When Eiri is in the hospital, Tohma is there as well, sitting on the bench silently, and having flashbacks. He called Mika and asked her to come to the hospital. They both stay with Eiri in the hospital room. Of course, this is normal behavior for almost anyone, but the fact is that Eiri isn't telling them to go away like he usually does. Most of his icy attitude has melted, at least in this episode.
